Get to know Tokaj Summer University has started
With the above title, the university has organised for the first time a series of programmes for foreign students to get to know the Tokaj wine region. During the two-week event, starting on 3 July 2023, participants will learn a lot about the Tokaj grape and wine varieties, and the myth of Tokaj aszú, sung in the Hungarian national anthem. The course will take students to the most important villages of the World Heritage area, its most beautiful cellars and historical sites. Students from Japan, India, Russia, the Netherlands and Bulgaria will enjoy a wide range of gastronomic and cultural experiences.
The programme, which will take place in Tokaj, Tarcal, Mád, Tolcsva, Sátoraljaújhely, Szegi, Hercegkút and Erdőbénye, introduces the group to the values of the built heritage. Interesting lectures and practical demonstrations will follow at each site. The programme, supported by the Tempus Public Foundation, is expected to increase the students' interest in the wine region and to encourage them to return for longer training periods.
After the official opening, this morning's session provided participants with a wealth of knowledge on geography and geology relevant to viticulture and winemaking. The time spent together was characterised by many questions and active participation. A tour of Sárospatak in the afternoon and a community-building programme in the evening awaited the students of the English-language, multi-age Summer University.
